LIVE A POSITIVE LIFE. INFLUENCE OTHERS.
The Philippine Medical Association (PMA), the umbrella organization of all medical societies in the country is mounting its ‘Oplan Doc Santa’ beginning on Christmas Day to help restore the lives of the families who were affected by the tragedy brought by tropical storm ‘Sendong.’
The storm not only claimed lives but it also created a huge damage to properties in the cities of Northern Mindanao including rural health units and health centers.
Dr. Mike Aragon, PMA spokesperson said the PMA has scheduled its first medical mission and gift-giving activities in Cagayan de Oro City on December 25. Similarly, on December 26 they will be holding the same activities in Iligan City and again on December 30 at Dumaguete City.
“We will attempt to ‘bring back’ the Christmas that ‘Sendong’ stole…we are mobilizing at least 150 to 250 doctors, psychiatrists, counselors, dentists, nurses, midwives, optometrists, bands and movie stars,” Aragon said.
The PMA describes the multi-sectoral activity as a public-private partnership enjoining various groups and government agencies such as the Philippine Dental Association (PDA), Philippine Nurses Association (PNA), Philippine Pharmacist Association (PPA), Integrated Philippine Associations of Optometrists (IPAO), Philippine League of Government and Private Midwives (PLGPM) and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), Department of National Defense (DND), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Department of Health (DOH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the various local governments of the areas hit by ‘Sendong’.
Let us help the PMA in their aim to somehow restore the spirit of the holidays through gift-giving and through its medical missions.
You can send your cash donations to Philippine Medical Association Union Bank- West Avenue Account: DISASTER ASSISTANCE 048-001210-6. Please fax a copy of the validated deposit slip to (02) 9296951 so that the PMA could acknowledge your donation.
